My Dear Mother,

This is not a letter, it is just the shortest kind of note. I am really too tired to write tonight but will do so tomorrow or the next day. I have been up to the trenches, and am back O.K. so will write and tell you about it.
Just want you to know that I am well, just fine. Letters rec'd O.K. also socks, papers & etc & many thanks for everything. Lots of love for all.
