Friday August 4, 1916
We had it very easy tonight. We only worked till about 12:30 instead of 1:30. I had a job finishing off the trench wall to exact width.
All the way to the trenches, we pass ruined villages and houses. The paths and fields are crossed and criss crossed with telephone wire. Back of a two mile front there are 12,500 miles of telephone wire.
We were lucky tonight and had an easy time.
