Diary
Sunday August 20, 1916
Went to work at 8 a.m. Helped engineers to put in a new wall on one of the saps (passage ways). The posts we sawed out were small and were buckling in-wards with the enormous overhead pressure.
Tonight we are moving out to the front trench. My maiden experience at holding the line. Our (#5) platoon is to hole the listening post in No Man's Land, and it is raining too, Wow! Imagine sitting in a shell hole all night, half full of water!
