Dear Uncle Sol. & Aunt Maggie,

Just a line to let you know I received your letter dated Jan 10th and was glad to hear from you, so will answer it now, just wrote a letter to Ona to night. I got a letter from Orrin, Ona, and Aunt Nellie of Toronto last night at the same time as I got yours. That's quite a story of the Irish & Turk, things like that happen in War times.

Wish I was there to help you eat them apple dumplings and that fine dinner of yours.

Well I had a route march this afternoon of about six miles, with full marching order. Well I expect to get home by next Xmas of 1917 but this war will not finish in a hurry and there is to be a lot of hard fighting yet to be done before it is finished. I see the U.S.A. is nearly at war with Germany at the present time and by the time you get this she will likely be. Glad you saw the Card & books I sent Home.
The weather here is quite cold with about six inches of snow. I like the cold better than I like the wet weather. Glad to hear that Dad got some Prizes with his Poultry and I know he would be Happy over it.
Yes I got a parcel from home some time ago. Glad to hear from you as there is quite a bit of news in it.

Well the 114th Boy are scattered now. quite a few of them are in France and the Front now. I here that one of them got killed some time ago at the Front. I am still in England and intend to stay here till they send me across the channel.

There will be lots of time next summer for me, when it is some warmer.

I think it will cost a pile of money to have the remains of George Clark brought back to Canada, as it is a long way to take them. Sam can Shoot the Bull pretty good when he likes but we used another rifle over here than the Ross and another make of equipment than I had in Canada. The old ones is here doing no good at all. The ones we got over here is a lot better.

Well I guess I will be glad when I get to the Land of the Maple again and most of the rest of the Boys will be glad also. Why they are willing to be taken back in a row boat. I guess you know John Russel Degear the Banker in Dunnville, well he is in the same Hut as I am he is a good sport and friend. There is quite a few of old Dunnville Boys in this Hut with me so I am quite at Home here. I get along fine here. I am feeling fine and in good health at present. Hope you are well also. I sent a English new paper to you did you get it?
