Dear Mother,
Thanks a lot for your letter which I just received yesterday. Well, things are going along pretty good here. The weather has been very nice the past few days. I guess it won't be long, though, before we start getting snow around here.
I've only had one 36 hour pass since I've been down here and I didn't manage to see Aunt Amy. However, I'll try and get down there if possible some weekend.
By the way, did you sell the dog yet, by any chance? I'll bet he is getting pretty big now.
I was talking to a fellow the other day and he was telling me that he had sold a very cheap drafting set for $10.00. Why don't you ask father to sell mine as it should be very easy to get $25.00 for it. They say that they are very scarce now and people will pay almost any price to get a good set. I thought it might be worth trying as the money would probably come in very handy.
The country down here is very beautiful from the air now that the leaves on the trees have all changed colour. I wish you could see it.
If everything goes according to schedule down here I should be home for New Years. I hope so, anyway. It will be only another three months before we are through and I guess that will go quick enough.
Thanks a lot, mother, for remembering my birthday but I really don't want anything. However, perhaps you could send me a sweater with long sleeves, as it would come in handy when the weather gets cold down here.
Well I guess I'll scram for the time being, mother, and tell Audrey that I'll write her in a day or two as I'm pretty busy studying these nights.
Your loving son,
Arthur
P.S. I got a letter the other day from a company trying to sell me life insurance. I don't think I'll answer it as they would probably consider me a bad risk now that I'm in the Air Force.
