Diary

July 20 - A big field day and a strawberry picnic. Everyone wanted to see the veterans drill and march past; the band was there for this, and the people who came from miles around got the treat of their lives. The biggest crowd Port Hope ever had turned out.

Every man swore he wouldn't take a drink until after the Colonel's funeral, and they kept their oath, every man of the regiment. But there was a hot time in the old town on the day and night after.
