Mr. F.M. Field, K.C., has handed us the following letter:
Salisbury Plains, (England)

October 29th, 1914.

It seems quite a long time since we spent that good Sun- day at Valcartier. Have seen some strange sights and sounds since that pleasant day.

We had a rather tedious trip over, having to run about ten knots an hour. Had very little rough weather. Lost two breakfasts and had one day's seasickness. Am not in love with the ocean, but hope to cross it once more. We landed in Plymouth Harbour rather unexpectedly, having been warned about fifteen minutes previously that four German Torpedo boats were lying in wait for us further on.

We just could do with those sweaters now. We were reviewed by Lord Roberts on October 24th. Our new General, General Alderson, is already well liked by all the men. He is doing everything in his power to make us comfortable. I will not take up more of your valuable time, will say in closing that all the lads are in the best of health and good spirits. Hoping you are the same, we remain,
