LETTER FROM LT. DOXSEE.
Our Boys All Well - False Reports Corrected.
Dear Mr. Editor:
Just a line or two to relatives and friends of boys from Campbellford and vicinity.
I am glad to be able to say that all the boys are in the best of health and anxious to get at the Germans, but owing to the necessity of a more thorough training it may be some weeks before we are sent across the channel. Our one and only wish and desire is that when the test comes in the firing line, we will do our duty, and give you cause to be proud of the boys from home. I hope to be able to write you from time to time giving you an account of our actions and adventures, as well as keeping relatives and friends of the boys informed regarding their health.
Permit me in conclusion to correct a statement that was made in a telegram sent to Campbellford in reference to a certain officer of the 40th and myself being left off at the last moment. This statement was absolutely false as regards myself, as I was one of the first officers to be selected for the contingent, whereas the officer referred to was not chosen until we were ready to sail. I have all respect for my brother officers, but sorry to say that one of them should so far forget himself as to resort to this method of discrediting one of the 40th. Kindly convey to all the good friends at home my sincere wish for a Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year, with an earnest prayer that all the boys will be spared to return to their homes, I am,
Yours sincerely,
LIEUT. W.J. DOXSEE.
