Harry B. Free of Campbellford, who is with the Artillery on the firing line, in writing to Rev. G.A. Brown, Campbellford says the German methods of warfare are not white enough to be written down. Regarding the progress made by the Allies he says, occasionally we chew off a few lines somewhere but on the whole the line does not change very rapidly. He states that they all have respirators and gas helmets now and consequently do not fear the gas. He says he could smell gas bombs two miles away. Speaking of Canadian discipline he says that one Battalion, No.4, made a charge without officers and pulled it off as though they were on parade.
