Pte. Henry Gordon Writes
(FROM FRANCE)
A member of the staff has received the following letter from Pte. Henry Gordon, who went to the front with the Second Battalion, 1st Canadian Expeditionary Force, and has now been in the trenches for about a year.:
December 14, 1915
Just a line to let you know that I am well and so are all the boys. Captain Birdsall and George Steele got wounded the last time we were in the trenches. There are only twenty of the old 40th crowd here. We are just out for a rest and we are getting some bad weather. It rains five days out of six. What do you think of the enclosed photograph? I had it taken when I was on leave in London. I had a fine time there.
Major Beattie was down to see us the last time we were out of the trenches. He looks well. We were all glad to see him. Is Dick Turpin in Cobourg yet? If he is, I would like to be him. This is all for the present. Best regards to all friends and a Happy Christmas and New Year to all.
HENRY GORDON.
