Dear Mom,

Well, I had a great trip to St. Thomas. Joyce had two days off, so that gave us a lot of time together. It rained a little during both days, but we still hed fun. We went to London to a show, and then roller skating in the evening. The next evening we went to a Benefit Dance at Port Stanley.

Joyce gave me a lovely black leather wallet for my birthday, and her parents gave me some shaving cream, two pairs of black socks, some hankerchiefs and a Schick razor. Very nice, all of it.

As I may have told you, I missed a draft for overseas, because I was on a 96 leave. but when I returned to Mont Joli I learned that Stewart Phillips and some of the other guys were on it. So now I wish I, too, were with them. We were together until now, but I guess this is where we separate. It'll be mighty lonely without him. After eight months, the Station is beginning to lose it's appeal to me.

Don't be surprised if you here that I'll be going some day, unless my eyes hold me back. I'll be spending as much time as possible with Stewart, before he goes home on leave prior to his trip overseas.

We had today (Sunday) off so Stewart and I took a walk along the shores of the St. Lawrence River. It was a nice day, though a bit windy. We talked a lot about many things, and especially spending another winter in Mont Joli. When I returned to the Station I had one cent in my pocket!

Thanks for the parcel. Stewart and I will enjoy it as our farewell banquet. Guess I'll go to a show (movie), this evening I picked up the paper on which this letter is written, at Union Station while I was between trains.

Love, Lewis
