Dear Mom,

Just for a change I'm writing this in pencil. I've got lots of ink (and all colours), but i though a pencoiiled letter would be different.

This letter is a special request one.

Yesterday and Saturday, I was skating at the rink in Durham, and as usual having a great time. While I was skating with one girl, a Joyce Dobson from Sunderland, we started discussing skates, and found that she would have to pay a lot of Customs Duties, and give up valuable coupons for skates to be sent from Canada. So I said I'd find out from you if there are any white figure skates, size 4 1 /2 in the stores at home, and how much they cost.

So long for now. Love Lewis.
