No 3 Stationary Hospital
Rouen
28th December 1916
My dearest Mother,
I have received your parcel to-day and I wish to assure you that the sweets were excellent and I enjoyed them very much also the nuts and raisons I shared them other patients, and they agreed that my Sister can make good sweets.
I am nearly healed up now and I expect to go to a convalescent hospital in England, I guess.
My eyesight is improving I can read the smallest print for a few minutes but then it blurs if I continue reading. Same thing happens when writing so please excuse me if this letter is cut short..
I had a very pleasant Xmas here. We had feasting and games and were taken to a pantomime in the motor ambulances. The performers were all soldiers including the orchestra. It was a fine show.
I hope you and Dorothy enjoyed your Xmas. Did you see any friends during the holidays?
Sometimes when on the march or are billeted in some town here I pass some well remembered regiment and I know that there are in it some friends of old and I search the faces of the men but I have not succeeded in finding any.
I will write again soon. A letter from you is due any time
Thanks for the parcel Eyes are tired. I remain
Yours affectionately
Wm Lowry
