France 1st March 1917 Dear Mother- Many thanks for your two letters dated Jan 30th & Feb 6th for which many thanks. Have not been able to write home very much lately as we have been very busy and have not found the opportunity either, However I write you every possible chance I get. Had another letter from Brownie Russell yesterday also from Father, Rita, Kris Matts and yourself. Thank you very much for getting those pictures of mine done but they are really very poor. If I ever get to Blighty Shall surely have some new ones taken and will send them home. Miss Blomfilla rec'd the ring and was very pleased about it and she said I was just a dandy-Father certainly never does things in halves. Bill Nicholson [?] to have a good time [?] Hastings as it surely is a nice place-spent a few week-ends there. Seems very strange that Bill G. should be sent to Toronto for a course in bayonet fighting seeing that he is in a field battery-the first I have ever heard of anything like that. Shall make a mental note of Leddells address in London and should the occasion arise shall surely look him up. The mits that Harry Lucas sent were the clear thing and they served me well in the last cold spell. The cold weather has just about spent itself and we are again having fairly warm weather. Was over to see the 24th Battal- the other day but did not see a person I knew-was unable to find Jim Wilson and most of the old boys that are left are on different jobs or have taken out commissions. Well mother have very little news for this time but will write again soon. Your loving son Bill I am quite well.
