Percy Jull, brother of H.F. Jull, recently of Rodney, writing to his mother at Walkerville from Belmont under the date of Jan. 10, 1900 says:

"I don't know how much longer we will be here, but I expect we will move before long as they are moving artillery up to Spyfontein to shell the Boers from their position there. Twelve five inch lyddite guns came into camp here to-day and I expect they will be moving up in a day or two. There are a number of six inch guns in Orange River and Dedar which are on their way up and when everything is ready it will not take long to make the Boers give up their position.

This is about the strongest position they have, and it will probably end the war on this side and Kimberly will be relieved. One of those six inch guns will level one of the hills to the ground in a couple of hours, so the Boers can't hold out long under such fire. I don't know what part we will take in the next battle at Spyfontein, or whether we will be in it at all, as I expect the artillery will do all that is necessary. I will be glad when they move us out of here, although the life is very easy just at present, as we practically do nothing all day long, except those days we are on duty, which is usually one in about every five.
