Dear Mom & Dad,

Received your letter of July 9 last night, and was very glad to hear from you again. I hope you are all still well. I am feeling better now, for I have reason to believe I might be in England for Christmas, but even though we do get the good word to move it will be a big problem because we will be going against the tide, so to speak, all the way on account of ever-increasing movements from the European theatre to concentrate on Japan. In Jim's last letter dated July 1st, he was still in England, but in Torquay now, still waiting transportation to Canada. That is very good news about Uncle Lin and I'll be glad to hear from him sometime. I had a letter from Aunt Reta & Uncle Les & they told me about it, too. I got a whole bunch of pictures from Mary Anderson of the V-E day celebrations in various parts of town. It was good to see the familiar streets again and crowds of civilians. I would sure like to have seen the eclipse. Remember when I was little, we met Dad on the corner of Barton and Sherman one day to watch a partial eclipse. How is Gwen getting along? I hope Jim is home by now. By the way, Mom, did you ever get a bill from the Book League in America? When I left Canada I wrote then to stop sending me books but they kept coming so, being unable to pay them from here I wrote them again to stop the books & send the bill to you, to be paid from my acc't, of course. They can't be getting my letters because I've had another bill from their collection agency in Toronto, threatening action. They're still using my Coal Harbour address. The bill is $5.67. I don't know whether to write them again or not. So long now, Joe.
