Dear Mother:

Thanks for your trans-Atlantic airmail letter. It occupied eight days in transit, so - too bad. I enjoyed your family snapshots very much indeed. Ronny looks quite delighted with the new car.

Doug Marshall may be working for Imperial Airways. They are dreadfully short of pilots, but of course he would not be a captain. In fat if he is with them, he will be at school, as they study for about a year, I believe, and do quite a long time as second pilot.

Tell Jean I am quite pleased with her progress so far - in fact more than pleased.

I have been flying back and forth between Amrya and here the last couple of days, besides doing quite a lot of night flying.

World conditions, of course, don't look so hot at the present time, but we are ready for any eventuality.

The sunflowers at 1608 are certainly the highest ever, and trees in front look very fine indeed.

You should see this barren land - still, if one must fight, this is the place to do it. Very comfortable in shirt sleeves instead of looking and feeling like a deep sea diver in England.

Arrived here on the first of May, so have had quite a bit of the eastern Mediterranean.

Can't think of anything more to write about, so

Write soon.

Lots of love

Bill
