Dear Mother:

Another few minutes in which to write a letter. - I hope you are all well at home.

Jean will be looking forward to her holidays and I know we all hope she has done well in her exams.

I am keeping fit and I hope cheerful even though we might have a few more white hairs than before.

None of your letters have reached me for over a month, but that is to be expected. The way I keep jumping from place to place no letter can hope to catch me for a long time.

Spent last night in Edinburgh and had a good time. Believe it or not we have no headache today.

Princess Street Edinburgh looks exactly like it does in the school reader, so I could recognize a bit of it.

By the way, cigarettes are very expensive here and I heard in London that 100 cigarettes can be sent to Canadian Officers for $1 from Canada -excise and customs etc. free.

Could you send me say a hundred a month Sweet Caporals. It would be best to send them c/o of Canada House under the special scheme - inquire about it in Calgary.

I do not know your financial condition these days, but I could send money to Canada if necessary.

Please let me know how you are getting on. The war has probably adversely affected business.

Hope you received my English newspapers of June 21 I believe.

Lots of love

Bill
