Dear Mr. Martyn,
Both from the press and over the radio we heard of the decoration conferred on Bill, and I wanted to tell you how splendid I think it is. I am sure both his mother and yourself have great cause to feel very proud. I was talking to Mr. and Mrs. Thompson tonight, and they especially asked me to tell you that they had heard of the honour given Bill and were very pleased about it. Marjorie had sent them a newspaper clipping from the Coast about it, but of course it was in our papers too.
Poor Mr. Harold's funeral was this afternoon. Both Mr. Thompson and Mr. Neelands were pall-bearers. The rest of the staff sat together. Mr. Thompson is going East to Brantford with the body tomorrow. Margaret, the eldest Harold girls (Mrs. Brown now) and her husband are going too.
Only this fall, Mr. Harold asked particularly about your son Bill, and wanted to know how he was doing. I hope you are enjoying good health this fall.
Yours sincerely
George Stratton
