Dear Mother
This account of the fighting on the Somme is thrilling. I thought you would like to read of it. Horrible indeed but thrilling as a record of heroism and valour.
Things are quiet with us in the whole. This heavy drive is a long distance away we can just faintly hear the guns if the wind is favorable.
Things are going well otherwise. Some very interesting cases of conversion lately. One a Mexican Bandit with his murders on his conscience, another a fellow who stole money & has conferred & made restitution & is also sending $100.00 to Canada to pay an old Doctor bill. When religion grips men like that it means something.
Letters from Mabel show great disappointment that things are so that I can't get leave. I may get it soon anyway. I hope I do. We have only been together 2 wks in 10 months.
Lots of love & best wishes from your affectionate Son
Will
