June 13, 1916 Dear Ada & Jim, Just a line to let you know I am still alright after all the heavy fighting this last two weeks. We went back at Fritz last night & took the hill from him. Also one hundred Prussian prisoners & they sure look a sickly looking bunch. Most of them, if it wasn't for their artillery, they would last five minutes. I can't write much this time as we expect him to counter attack tonight but we are ready for him. Say Jim, do you remember a fellow named Percy Whitney, who used to be a fireman. He came over with me. He has got a Military Cross two months ago & the other day he was out on patrol the other night and captured two more Prussian Guards, one of whom had an iron cross on him. So I guess he will get something better. The Gen told us that as soon as we took the trenches back we would get six weeks rest but the best of it was we didn't lose the trenches. It was the Third Div. But the First Div volunteered to take them back for them & I guess we can do it alright. Glad to say that Dave & H. Foster is alright but we lost quite a lot of the boys. But Fritz lost a lot heavier. I think this is all this time. Hoping this letter finds you all in the best of health as it leaves me the same with best wishes from bro Sid P.S. Will be going on leave first of the month but I would sooner go to good old Canada.
