Dear Ollie:

Will try and scratch you a few lines tonight to let you know am getting along ok.  Have commenced work again.  Am pretty sore and my side bothers me a little but outside that feel pretty fit.  We are having desperate weather here this week.  It rains day and night.  Bet the trenches are terrible but then as Joe McPhee says the first ten years are the worst so am living in hopes.  Had a letter from Mother the first of the week and two from you but yours were old as the hills.  Written sometime in May but Mother’s was written after she got word of my wounds.  Well Ollie, I don’t know anything to write.  I haven’t heard from Angus only the once.  Don’t’ know what has happened to him or mebby he never got my letter.  Will close for this time.

 Love to all

Jack
