Dear John:-

I was glad to hear from you.  We was wondering how you were getting along.  Am glad to hear that you are able to get out again and hope Ollie will be better in a few days. But the measles is a damn bad dose if you happen to get cold do you want to be mighty careful that you don’t have to go to bed again.

Well John, I have made up my mind to stay with the 85th for I guess we will be going across before a great many weeks. But Kelly is going with the 224th.  He is going to get his transfer in a few days now.  They go to Quebec first, or that is what the say.  The 64th has left us now so we stand some show if going for I didn’t think that they would ever get away.  I was on guard two days when the troops were loading.  It was quite a sight.  Sat. there was over 5000 went aboard.  There was four trainloads came in after six o’clock Sat. night.

Well I guess Spring has come by the looks of things.  I suppose you are all done in the woods but it will be quite awhile before they will be able to start the drive for the ice must be mighty thick in the lakes.

I wonder where Ernest is going to work this summer?  Do you suppose he will help mill?

I will have to quit for this time.  Write again if you can read this.
