November. 23, 1940.
Dear Betts; -
I swore I wasn't going to write to you until you answered my last letter but seeing as how it is your birthday on Monday I guess I'll have to soften up.
Happy birthday Squirt – so you are a young lady now eh? Congratulations – may you have many more happy birthdays in the future as you have had in the past.
Too bad I'm not going to be there to give you the usual spanking Small Fry, but Mr. Mac. ought to be able to officiate very nicely.
Mom told me that you wanted a pair of gloves for your birthday – they haven't anything like them down here so here is $2.00 to buy yourself a pair – you can tell me about them in your next letter. I wish I had the money to get you a season ticket at Glenora but if Mom does I'll go half with her when I get my next cheque.
I got a paper from Bruce dated Nov. 16. 1940. It was the Journal and I saw your name in it twice on the Young People's Page – nice going kid – keep up the name of Boon – it is something to be proud of.
Down here everybody calls me Dan'l Boon – nobody thinks its my real name, it sure takes me a long time to convince them.
I'll close now as I have to go on duty soon
Happy Birthday Squirt.
Lots of Love.
Bill.
PS: - Write soon.
