Dear People,

No letters this week from you but I may get some later this afternoon. Came out from a reserve position last night where we had a dug out of the most commodious and comfortable variety constructed for us by the obliging enemy. We had nothing to do but eat and sleep except for taking the occasional turn on guard and most of the time everything was quiet except for the noise of our own batteries which, however, on occasion could make enough noise to wake the dead. Coming out we got a bit of a hot send off but fortunately nobody was hit.

Continuing later. A letter from will was all that the afternoon mail brought. He said that he had seen Norman Keith. I have just been over to look up a few fellows I used to know in a platoon of cyclists which is billeted not far away. Stuart Ball is down here with them as the platoon officer. He looks very well and seemed glad to see me. In spite of the fact that so many of us were transferred I hear that there are a lot of conscript cyclists in England now.

The weather has been very hot lately but the nights are cool. Have missed the strawberries this year. It is hard to get fruit of any description.
