Dear Father:-

In Mother’s letter yesterday I told her that I was convalescing at Miss Montizamberts and having a great rest.

It is hard to believe that the war is actually over and I am anxious to get back to the hospital and see how the men are taking it. A lot of them will get well very quickly now when they know they haven’t got to go back.

I told mother that there was a Miss Buchanan here, a trained nurse. She was out in South Africa the time of the Boer war & stayed on there some years afterwards. I mentioned having two aunts in Pretoria & she said she had met Miss Bridge who was head of the normal college.

I wonder which one of us will get home first. The hospitals of course will be kept open for a long time yet but I don’t intend to stay after I finish my 6 months contract.

I did intend to get a letter off to you that would reach you in time for you birthday, but I am afraid this will be too late. However many happy returns.

I expect there were American troops in mid-ocean on their way over. I wonder if they would let them come or turn back.

London will be a different place at night now – all lit up.

I had a very nice letter from Mrs. Mackay which I must answer. I didn’t write many letters while I had the “flu” as I didn’t want to send the germs around the country.
