Dear Alma- Am writing a few lines tonight as I have some spare time on my hands also you may notice by the paper some dirt. I had a letter from Rollie tonight he is having a big time dodging whizz-bangs and Jack Johnsons and coal-boxes and having a good time generally. This is a pretty nice camp but I heard we had to leave it by April 1st.but I dont think our Div. can go over by that time. We are in the 5th Div. A Div. consists of 16 Batts besides Artillery Machine gun Cos Army Med. corps etc. This is a very interesting part of the country. The Village Blacksmith’s shop is not far from here and we are on the main roads between London and Portsmouth
I am learning to operate the Lewis Machine gun now. I understand that Milf will be Company Driver, whatever that is. We have over 40 horses and 11 mules in the Batt and I dont know how many waggons. We have men from all over Canada. A lot of them are from Nova Scotia and there is one Russian. A lot of them have been at the Front. I am sorry Rose has been sick but I suppose she is better now. Well Alma this is hard writing a I have no light but a candle as our power house has been burned down and It will take them about three years to fix it up the way they are working. Well Good by and give my love to all Your brother
