Dearest:
This is a very "dud" day, thick clouds at 500 feet, so consequently no flying. I’ll be able to catch up with some of my correspondence to-day. Yesterday evening we had a funny show. We went up to do a defensive patrol just behind our own lines but the clouds were so low and so thick that we had to fly as low as 1000 feet most of the time and even then we could not see each other always. I was leading the formation and was standing up in my seat half the time looking back to see that nobody got lost. Eventually I did lose two of them and arrived back at the aerodrome with one other machine. Half an hour later just at dark the others turned up, much to my relief for I would have felt that it was more or less my fault if they had landed in Hunland.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Lovingly yours as always.
Eric
