Madam,

I am commanded by the Army Council to inform you with regret that it has been reported from the Base that in a message dropped from a German aeroplane over our lines, information is given that Captain C.E. Robertson, Royal Flying Corps (Special Reserve) was killed.

Experience has shown that the information given in such messages can be accepted as correct. In view of this report therefore and as nothing further has been heard of Captain C.E. Robertson since he was reported as Missing 12th July, 1917, the Army Council are regretfully constrained to conclude that he was Killed in Action on that date. I am to express their sympathy with you in your bereavement and to say that publication will be made in an early casualty list.

I am to add that it is not considered advisable that the source of information mentioned above should be referred to in any notice which may be inserted in the press.
