Dear Folks-

Just a short note tonight (and please excuse the length) to let you know how glad I was to receive today your letters, mothers of Aug 7 & 22, yours' Harold, of the 14th. from Sicamous, yours', Jack, of the 13th from MsJaw [Moose Jaw?], yours' Ev, of the 12th and yours' Lib of Aug 21. I tell you it was a treat after receiving no mail at all since Aug 16th.

The reason I cannot write a decent letter tonight is because I am dead tired and sleepy but thanks be feel fine. We have just marched back from a big battle which lasted from 6am friday morn (we prepared during thursday night) until yesterday morn, in fact did not let up much all day yesterday, but two other brigades relieved us and we came back for a rest. We took about one mile along about three miles of a front, had an awful fight for several but gained a dandy victory. I was buried once about three feet deep, with two other fellows, by a shell but we all came out without a scratch. We lost a lot of good men but the [?] tremendously and we took somewhere near six or eight hundred prisoners. Sergeant [?]loway was wounded but we do not know how bad. I will try and write a letter soon giving you more [?] and details.
