My Own Dear Mother,

I received your letter yesterday, and will do my best to let you know how things are going now. You will know as well as I do all the good news about the war. It looks pretty good and we all have hope of it ending very soon. I was down to see Charlotte yesterday, the first chance I have had in nearly two months and I had a ride of close on thirty nine or forty miles on a cycle. However I am in fine shape and felt like doing it all over again when I got back to camp. She showed me the necklace you sent her. It sure was a nice thing and she was very pleased with it. But I guess by now you have received her letter. She has had a hard time to get her picture taken. You see whe[n] Fritz came up, he came close enough so that all the windows of their house were broken but he is many miles away now, and before long I think he will be many more miles away. Ch. and family stopped with their home all the time and are they glad they did, for now they quite are safe. To day is Thursday and on Sunday she will have her picture taken and send you one. Yes Mother dear I should soon get my leave now and will go to Korsly T. and I will write to Gran in a couple of days. I certainly surprised to know Eve having to wear glasses. But I guess it is because the Military are very strict in these thing especially the eyes. That is a fine picture of her standing in the park, she has certainly turned out to be a fine girl I hope by this time Dad has received my letter. Well that is about all Mother dear. I am in the same good health. Do you know I have never been sick since I joined up, except for a slight touch of that Spanish Flu which soon passed over. Everywhere I go people remark upon my complection and red face, I find it very embarrasing though I suppose I should be very pleased. Well I will close now. Give my best love to everybody.

Best love to Yourself,
Your Loving Son
Eddie.
