My dear Mr. Beaumont– Boggs
I have just returned from the funeral of your boy and I feel I must drop a line to you to try and express something of the sorrow and sympathy I feel for you and Mrs Beaumont Boggs in your terrible loss. It will I know be some slight consolation to you both to know he died a a soldier death – as I read on a rough cross erected by French villagers on an adjoining grave. ‘A British Soldier who died on the Field of Honour.’ You have indeed lost a noble son and we who were proud to be his friends a good comrade.
Yours sincere friend
