My dear Boggs,
I have just heard of the sad news you have received from France and cannot let a moment slip without writing you to express the most sincere feeling of sympathy I feel for Mrs Boggs and yourself and family.
I know that when I return to Union Bay this evening that my Wife and girls will all join with me in sympathy for you all. Our own boy cannot have been very far from yours and so this brings us very close together both in sorrow and in anxiety.
Yr. sincerely,
D.H. Macdowall
