Dear Mr. Boggs:
I received today copies of “The Daily Colonist” from February 21st to March 12th and in the issue under date March 2nd was astounded to read of your son’s gallant end. As an old swimming friend and admirer of Herbert, and a late member of the British Campaigners, of which you were Vice President upon my departure, I feel you will overlook the lateness of this letter, for distance prevented my writing earlier, but wish to convey to Mrs. Boggs, yourself and family my heartfelt sympathy in this terrible bereavement; I trust that you all may be comforted at this time of great sorrow.
My sincerest regards, and believe me, Yours very sincerely,
P.R. [Pomfret?]
P.S. Please do not trouble to acknowledge this, for know you have much to occupy your thoughts. I shall understand.
