Dear Mother
Just a line to let you know I have not heard from you for about a month. I believe there is a mail here in the country but I have not received any as yet. I just came out of hospital yesterday after a two weeks rest, went in with a little dose of fever which lasted three days. The fever is not bad to get or hard to get over but it leaves a fellow with an awful shaky hand for awhile. As you can see by the writing my hand is all over the sheet. Got a good Doctor here for us fellows a real Canadian so you see he understands us.
One of the Winnipeg boys has just got a commission and came up here today He was a sargeant and a nice fellow and will make a good officer Our O.C. feels quite proud to get some of the boys with stars up. The exsargeant’s name is Gregg I wonder if he is any relation to me?????
We are having it fairly easy now and some of the new fellows out from England are getting the road jobs. Its a good thing too as the boys that have been here a year and a half cant stand the racket as our blood is too thin.
I haven’t received any of those parcels you sent last April or May but I expect to get them this mail. I hope you are getting mail from me each week by now as I started to write regularly last March and have kept it up pretty well. So your mail should be getting there more regular than mine.
I am still driving our O.C. here I have had the job five months now and have had a good rest.
Well Mother there is no news now so I had better close. I am in good health and hope you are the same. Give my love to all not forgetting our own family. Well bye bye Mother dear with lots of love
Your eldest
Harold.
