Dear Mrs Gale,
You have probably had intimation already of a distressing nature. Your son Ralph passed away on the 29th ultimo in hospital at Dortmund from a Lung Affection. Interment took place on the 2nd inst. in Dortmund Cemetery and the grave is designated Section XIV No 120. There was a nice funeral with deceased’s comrades in attendance, beautiful floral Offertory and service. As a mememto you will have ribbons sent you taken from a large wreath and upon application to the General Officer Commanding this Camp., you may have a photograph of the grave and headstone. This application is necessary in accordance with regulations in order to obtain it. From one or two of Ralph’s Comrades. You will receive perhaps more information. We are assured that everything possible was done in the hospital without avail.
It is very difficult, in fact words seem useless under such sad circumstances and we quite realize the inadequacy of expression to relieve the natural anguish of yourself and others bereaved. If there is anything we can possibly do for you here kindly do not hesitate to ask.
Yours faithfully
Geo. B. Williams
