Dear Moo:

I received your very welcome parcels last seek; your nice cigarettes on the 17th & your lovely Xmas parcel on the 18th, so it has been a very lucky week for me. I think I told you that I received your present for Carol. I am keeping both Carols & my own till Christmas, although I opened your parcel & have been feasting on nuts & biscuits. Many, many thanks, Moosie & Mumsey, for I certainly appreciate them, particularly as I never get anything from my wife.

Ah well, my boys will complete their advanced training on the 24th, & I am sure hoping that it will mean a change for me, either the field or a draught abroad. I would certainly like to get out to Italy & see some action for that's what I joined this blinking Army. However I'll wait & see, & I'll certainly let you know what happens in the next week or two.

How are the children? I trust they are both well & full of life. The last word I had from Barbara , tells me that Carol is fit & well.

I am hoping to get some Christmas leave, & if so I will spend it with my father-in-law, where I'll be able to see Carol every day -- it'll be quite a treat to see something of the little tyke again, as she means a lot to me. I suppose I would be unnatural if I wasn't so interested in her.

I lead a very staid life here, as I'm kept busy most of the day, then spend my evenings playing bridge: -- it's only in the last 4 weeks that I've taken bridge up again, for I never played it in civilian life over here. In fact the only games I played was Bezique & Pontoon. I used to play Pontoon in Somerset & then Bezique with Ernie & Elinore in Glasgow.

Ah well, my dears, I'll close this scrawl, with thanking you once again for your lovely parcels & presents: -- please give Janet & Sue a big kiss from their Uncle Dick, & tons of love to all three of you,

Your affectionate brother,
Dick
