Dear Mother
Another week is nearly gone, as this is Thursday evening Sunday will soon be here again. I have not had any mail this week except a note from Rollie, the home mail may be here in the next day or two though. I usually get something each week now that I have settled down but it over due this time.
We have been having some fine warm summer weather here although we get a rainy day ocassionly and the sea mists put in appearance. I imagine this island to be a damp, foggy dreary hole in the winter, although personally I dont like any part of the south of England that I have visited when the winter months are running the weather bureau.
Everything here is sliding along as per usual and I am feeling pretty good. I am glad I am at work again on a car as the idea of traveling around with no home is not as nice, though sometimes more educative, as being settled down with a bed to sleep on.
Everything was going on well with Rollie although he said he had been quite busy looking after the sports. I have not heard from Roy lately but Rollie said he was still alive and that’s the main thing. Frank has not written me yet and as I have not got his number etc I can’t write to him. You, Mary and Ruth all spoke of his being over here but none of you sent his number along. You all should know it is the main thing in army letters as we may have a hundred Kelly’s in the same camp. I would like to go to Seaford but I dont see my way clear for a couple of weeks anyway. I can’t very well ask for leave as soon as I land on a new job but I will get my turn along with the other boys and that should be four days every three months or so. Of course I would rather have three months to go home but I have to take what I can get.
Well Mother I will have to close as I am at a loss for something to write. Bye Bye for now with lots of love ot all
Your son
Harold.
