Capt. McNichol, Marr, the Major & I went for a long ride – 25 miles. Had a great time & surprised myself. The country is great & there are large numbers of songbirds.

Capt. McNichol got orders to go as M.O. to the 35th so he leaves us tomorrow. Will miss his company very much. Today I rode a bucking horse & got a bad throw. My whole side is black & blue & my right hip is very sore. Nevertheless I remounted & continued the ride.

Good Friday. Miss Blackadder of Victoria phoned me up from Moor Barracks Hosp. I called on her in the evening & we talked of Victoria & all the people we knew & of those who were here. She looks fine & enjoys her work here. It sure was a treat to see somebody from home.
It’s hard to believe but nearly every girl in the Hythe, Sandgate & Folkestone has gonorrhea & syphilis. Of course this does not apply to the nurses who are a well behaved bunch.

I got a notice warning me to be ready to proceed for Overseas Service at a moment’s notice. Many others also got a notice.

My warning for overseas cancelled. Gee I am sorry. Also I had written to many of my friends that I was going to France & had made all preparations.
I think the English Gov. must be asleep to allow a rebellion to break out in Ireland at Dublin as there were all sorts of warnings & no steps were taken to nip it in the bud.
