Went to Shoreham-By-The Sea passing through Guildford & Horsham. At the latter I put up at the King’s Head Hotel. This is a rather interesting place. Shoreham is the C.C.A.C. center. Here the casualties are given P.D., the classes are graded & when the training is completed the men are formed into a C.C.A.C. Btn instead of drafting them into other training depots.

To Sonning links & had my first drive at a golf ball with Capt. Inskip, Lough, Brothers & Lewis. Think I will like the game.

Returned to Sonning links & Capt Inskip instructed me regarding golf. We played the whole afternoon.

Another afternoon at golf with Capt Inskip, Lough, Brothers & McDermitt at Sonning. We all enjoyed ourselves. While waiting for our car one of the men informed us that a man had attempted suicide in a nearby wood & they were waiting for a doctor. Did not seem to wish our service & they were leaving the man in the wood till a doctor arrived. A cop was guarding the victim.

Capt Inskip ordered away. Sorry that he is going as we all enjoyed his company very much.

Met Major French R.A.M.C., consulting Physician for Aldershot area. A very pleasant chap.

Started off for Taplow at 7:45 pm with Sisters Pense, Wylie, McCue & McPhee, Capt. McDermitt & Lough. The car broke down. We all got out & cursed it & after ¾ of an hour of cussing & all giving advice we got the car to go. Lost our way then found Maidenhead. When nearing our destination the car could not climb the hill. We got out to walk the rest of the way thinking we had only a few hundred yards to walk. It was 3 ½ miles. But before we got there the car overhauled us. Arrived at 9:45 pm. The dance was nearly over but they carried on to cheer us up. Had tea later on at the nurses’ home & started for Bearwood at 11:15pm. Got home ok. A total distance of 28 miles.
