Went to Auchel with Capt. Cote & Lft. Wallace. We saw the Dumbell show. Had a very good supper & the finest White Port Wine I ever tasted.

Notice of my recall to England has arrived. I am trying to have it cancelled. Today is the Anniversary of Battalion’s arrival in France. We had a Bn. Dinner & about twenty guests – there were sixty all told. Full Band in attendance & four of the Dumbell troup to entertain us. The dinner was great, lasting from 8pm to 1am. Col. Foster, O.C, of 52nd was one of our guests. He is from Victoria.

We marched from Raimbert to Houdain.

Feb 19, 1918
On the Villers-au-Bois.

Feb 20, 1918
We marched into close support on the Avion front. It was a long walk. Here I had a fun pit for my dressing room shared by Capt. Turner, the 43rd M.O. This place was very drafty – full of rats & lice. Slept here one night & then I found quarters with Major Allen at B.H.Q.

We went into the line. H.Q. at LaCoulotte. D.S.(dressing station) in basement of brewery alongside the A.D.S. Here I had very good quarters & electric light. There are bursts of shelling now & then. Mostly trench motor work & rifle grenades. It is a quiet front.
