Dear Mother.

Just a few lines to let you know I am well, and hope it will not be so very long before we all meet again in good old Brid, and then for a happy time again. I hope you all at home keep in the best of health, and continue to do so. Just now I do not receive y parcels as I used to do. I don’t know the reason. Probably the Red X is not sending anymore, and I have not had any smokes from England for about five months. If it is possible, please have a few cigarrettes or tobacco sent out to me sometimes I sure would be thankful.

I gess this letter will reach you about Xmas, so all I can say is I wish you all a very merry Xmas, and hope you all enjoy yourselves. Make the best of it under the circumstances which I gess are rather trying sometimes now Give my best wishes to Tom when you write. I am always thinking about him. Tell him I hope the next Xmas, we spend together in Canada

I am looking forward to the time when I get the sweater you are making for me as I sure will need it. I think it is going to be very cold out here this winter. We have not had any snow yet, but I am exspecting it coming any time now. It does not get as cold as Canada here, but it gets very cold sometimes. I gess you are having rough weather in Brid now. Give my best Xmas wishes to Irene Florrie and Willie, Grandma, Pete, Jack, Jennie and Edie and to all friends and relations at home and abroad. I remain your most affectionate son
