Dear Mother and Dad,
We have made another step after a long rest and are busy again but nothing very startling is happening. It is just the same old thing. – The above address is the latest one and will be the best so please use it exclusively from now on. – I got a letter today with news of Pauline’s baby – very pleasant indeed and I shall write to her at once. Also in the letter were those clippings about the terrible things happening in the army. It does not worry me personally but when I think of the people already over there it makes me mad and ashamed of Canada. I only hope that by now something will have been done about things. – You may be pleased to hear that I have been mentioned in dispatches – It doesn’t mean much actually because I just happened to be one of the ones in the squadron who got it on behalf of the squadron. Still I am quite pleased about it. – It was for the business up in Norway that you have heard of. – We have been getting a good deal of swimming here and sun too – The climate is a lot like East Africa and it really seems quite pleasant again although you will remember I did not like that much at the time. – I have also met a good number of old friends whom I knew long ago so it is quite pleasant. You may remember a chap called Chipperfield in the Yeovilton picture. He was killed the other day. These things happen I am afraid but it seems to be the good ones who go. I met Bill Lea here and he should be dropping you a line soon. I asked him to. –
Much love,
Hampton.
