My Dear Nerta,
Well kid, here I am, still a patient. I was down town yesterday afternoon, and expect to go down again, this afternoon, although it is raining. The M.O. was in no hurry to discharge me, saying it would be some time before I had another rest like this. He however, started my discharge thro yesterday, and as it takes about 30 hours to go thro, I will likely be on duty some time to‑morrow, Friday.
Your letters of the 8th and [16?]th arrived on Tuesday, while yesterday I received a card from Lena Garnham, posted Dec 26th, that is travelling some, Eh?
Say, if you can get Bill Berry’s address, please send it to me. I replied to the address he gave, but the letter was returned.
Lester Jackson was over again last night, he comes over quite often and I am glad to see him.
I also had a letter from Aunt Edith, enclosing two dandy silk h’dkf’s. I am going to send them home with a box of stuff as soon as your last parcel arrives, which should be pretty soon now, to have them named. They are too good to lose, and as I have not the rubber stamp yet, I have no way of naming them properly. I will send a couple of books, sox, camera and several other things, but will send instructions later.
I got the box of fruit Jan 7. It sure was fine while I was in bed.
Mom did not say anything about your furs. Hope you get them fixed up all right.
That Eaton H. Paper is all right. This stuff is all I could get at the canteen and I went down town yesterday to buy some paper etc. but found when I got down town, discovered that it was Wednesday, and everything was closed, so I have to go down to-day. It is raining too. Say never mind sending that flashlight I asked for, I am going to buy a nickle plated one of the same size, that opens like a book, a Franco, for about 4/6. The batteries cost less than my little one, and last longer. I doubt if the batteries we get now will fit that light I left at home. That size 3 cell battery is only -/9 and can be bought any place, while the little two cell battery is very hard to get.
I am sorry Dad was not well, and very glad that you were at home to go to the store. I am anxious to hear how the Dec. trade turned out, it seems funny, that the last letter I had from home, was posted the 16th, and then last night to get that one from Lena, posted on the 26th. You must have sent at least three from home in that time. She had my direct address too, Dad gave it to her. I have not even given Floss my direct address, as I don’t know when I will move. I will however cable you to use my old address that I am moving.
It is too bad that Effie is so miserable, funny they can’t do something for her. I must send her a card.
Yes, if I get to Seaford, I hope to see some of the 110th. I don’t know tho, we may go direct to Eastbourne, or may stay right here.
I am rather surprised that Lowry has turned out that kind of a wife, but she never was very fond of work. Then a bankers hours only make that kind of thing worse. I thought her brother-in-law was a druggist. I still think so too.
Say, I think I sent the following photos, Mitchell, Seaforth, Home Miriam, Floss, Mae, now [that?] is six but I still have one over. I am afraid I have neglected enclosing one, so as soon as you find out whether or not these have received them, please let me know. I want to send one to Vera A. but want to be sure the others have them first. I may have received seven, but did not count them.
I had a dandy letter from Olive Keller. They are living right near Helen Feares.
I have not seen Wilfred yet. He must be as busy as I, or is he shy?
We get mail 12.30 and 5.30 PM It is now 10.30 A.M. and I will not seal this till after mail and let you know if I get any letters, and I will post it in Folkestone this afternoon.
