Dear Dad.

It is really sinful to be glad of rain just now – as all the crops are not in, but we have to-night, the third rainy night in succession. By the way, the crops of France are the heaviest yield this year, that they have ever known. Those of England are the largest for fifty years, and I believe the area under cultivation in both countries is much larger than ever before.

The news is truly wonderful, and still continues, and no doubt will continue while the good weather lasts. Of course we must not think it is over yet, because it is still quite a little march to the Rhine.

No doubt, the Canadian casualties seem very heavy, but the advances are wonderful, an according to the English papers to-night, the Canadian part in the latest advance, has been a big one.

I am mighty glad that you are better and hope that by now, you have returned from Muskoka in much better health than ever.

I hear that [?] has returned to Blighty to take his commission, but I am not just sure about it.

I am afraid you will have ruined those batteries, of course you will know by now. You see when the generator is in, it is charging them all the time the car is running and supplying the power for ignition as well. When you take the generator out tho, it throws everything on the batteries and there is no power going into them. I do hope tho that you didn’t run it very much while it was out.

Seems funny, bullion being $1⁰⁰, you thought it was getting pretty high when it hit .50 a few years ago. The silver coinage will soon be worth its face value, at the rate it has advanced in the past ten years.

Yes, I suppose Frank knows all about it now, but what the chump wants with a car at this stage of the game, is more than I can see. Why he must be absolutely crazy in his position and thinking of going into business too. I don’t see how he makes enough to buy gas and pay for repairs. He surely is the limit. I would think he could get a good opening in the bank under present conditions.

I think you mentioned before that Tom was being married. I don’t blame him tho, as it must be pretty lonely there for him.
