Dear Dad,
I have a couple of your letters to answer, but don’t feel a bit like writing as I have the deuce of a cold. I have had it for several days and expect to be pretty well over it by to-morrow.
It sure makes a difference when you jump back to the old time. It gets dark here very early now – about 5 P.M. and we don’t get a great deal of sunshine.
I am glad you are so well and if you can get thro the winter without a cold, you should be in good shape by Spring.
Apples are mighty cheap there this year. For any thing decent, we have to pay ten cents or, twenty cents for a pear. Fruit is very expensive here, altho there must be a good deal of it grown in Southern France.
You never mention watches. Are you selling any pocket watches? And are they able to give any deliveries on Commercial Standards? I see the Hamilton people are just bringing out a Military wrist watch. They are a little too late. The Gruen people have been advertising extensively in the Post lately. I hardly see how they can turn out very many, unless of course, their entire output to the U.S.A. I imagine they do, as I never see nor hear of them over here. The Omega, Longines and Zenith seem to be sold largely in England and the Continent. The Omega put out a good complete watch (wrist) silver case with double cap at back and heavy all thro – no sleeve. It is a good watch but runs about one hundred francs in fifteen jewelled.
One of our boys won a cup at the boxing tournament the other night and it is silver, stands about a foot high and heavy. Supposed to be worth eleven guineas, and it is worth all of that. He fights again soon, for a better one, against the champ. of Boulogne area (I believe he is also champ. of Eng.). Hope he makes it.
Too blooming bad that doll business isn’t going to go. You may never get your money out of it. Wonder what Uncle Will, will do.
You were pretty nearly right in your guessing about Germany. I didn’t expect to see her drop out this year. I do wish the revolution there would clear up and let them elect a decent government. It looks as if England will yet have to step in and help them settle it.
Surprised that you are wearing +2.50. If you can wear anything for distance, wear bi-foc. all the time as it will save your accommodation a great deal and keep it in a more normal condition.
Love to all,
Your affectionate son,
Worth.
Had trouble getting Christmas cards, but finally got a “sand” correspondence card and had some printed. Hope to get them to-morrow.
