Seaford,
26/3/17 – 1.30 A.M.

My Dear Sister,

Last night and to-night we have been rather upset, but I do not know what the real cause of it all is. You will tho likely have full particulars before you get this letter. Last night (Sat.) about 6 P.M., picketts started clearing out Seaford and all Troops were given C.B., as they returned to camp. Battalions are all mobilized, and men issued with rifles and ammunition. Coasts and roads are all patrolled and guarded while the C.B. lasted all day Sunday. Rumor says that the German fleet is out and they have attempted a landing, further North, while another rumor says rioting and rebellion in London. We thought that the Sunday papers would give us some news, but there is not a word of it. Hope for some news in the morning tho.

Poor Hornblower passed away at noon on Thursday, and had a funeral Saturday. I have another man very low, diagnosed as T.B. He and nine others go to Hastings Tuesday and if all is well I will go as escort. We will go by ambulance in the afternoon. Then if I can make it, I hope to spend the aft. and eve of Thursday or Friday, in Brighton. Think I can get a pass and have or will have then, no very sick cases and someone else can stay on for me.

I get down nearly every afternoon and have a few minutes walk with Postie and then back to duty again. We have had some fine sunshine lately but it is pretty windy.

Your January parcel arrived O.K., but as you see by enclosed label, it was practically fourteen months getting here. Ha Ha. Everything was O.K., there was a little of the tops of candy, dry, but inside it is lovely and fresh. If it had not been in tins, would have all been dry. We are enjoying it and raisins. I thought there were sox in that parcel, but apparently not. I gave away the pair from the St Thomas people as I have five pairs of home knit, and I think from your letters, two or three coming. None show signs of wear as yet, I don’t wear army issue at all.

I rather think the B.E.F. on my address is confusing and think perhaps parcel went to France. In future you had better use this address:

Omitting last line for name of hospital and town where I happen to be located. If we move to France, I will cable to use London address and then you will know we have left England. I don’t know what they will do yet but if we go to France, we will not likely be split up, which will be some consolation. Under the new minister tho, you don’t know what they will do next.

Am enclosing some cards which are pretty good. Forward a couple, when you get a chance. Havent had any from V.P.K. developed yet, so don’t know how they will be.

I have order mailed Feb 15/17 but none later as yet.

Irene is very wise in not coming over here. It is no place for any who don’t absolutely have to be here. There are too many to feed already.

I hope Mother’s rib is better by this time, but guess it will take some little time to heal up. Havent had any experience with them tho so don’t really know.

I will also keep track of the orders and let you know. When I get the one of Mar 1^st, I don’t think there are any missing, altho I have not kept track of them. I cant understand how your letter 2/3/17 arrived a week ago, while Mother’s 1/3/17 has not come yet. Possibly the latter went via N.Y. and to the bottom of the sea.

Apparently the U.S.A. is at last, going to get into a fight. They talk of sending Teddy and 100,000 and I think we could use them to advantage. If they come in real strong, it will likely help end the war sooner.

P.S. – Say kid never mind sending that brush just now as I have been able to get a good one here. Have dad get this book tho, and put it in my library, I want to read it when I get back. Don’t lose the clip.
