My Dear wife and sweetheart
Received your letter O.K. glad to get it, but didn’t see any thing of the parcel yet, but they allways seem to be slow about a parcel Ive seen some six weeks old before the fellow got them. Im enjoying this part of my experience fine, do nothing but shoot every day and I’m passing in every class so far, that is I dont have to shoot over again like a whole lot have to, will be at the ranges for another week anyhow, so that will be another week of sport for me. They say the Western Irish is one of the best battallions for average shooting that has came from Canada that’s saying something. You dont tell me how your chickens are getting along I hope they are a success, and that you’ll have lots of them when I come back, you know that we don’t get any in the Army nor eggs either, eggs are 80 cents a dozen what do you think of that, and sugar is only sold in five pounds at a time and they wont sell you anymore than that. I have not heard anything about my transfer yet, will let you know if I do.
6.30 AM on the 17th
starting again this morning to finish this little letter, the lights went out last night and Ive got to go to the ranges so must hurry I hope Hughina is better now, dont take chances with her, you know she is all we got and the best is none too good for her, Well kiddo I must ring off be good and be cheerful, I dont think it will be very long now untill the war is over, Kiss sweetheart for me and kindest regards to yourself. same address
