My Dear wife and daughter
Just a line to Say that I received your letter dated 17th Inst and two days after that received one from Jack Westwood dated 30th so you see how uncertain the mail is, you can tell Jack that Ill answer it next week, as envelopes are at a premium n the trenches this time, so will have to wait untill I go out and then Ill get some. We hear great rumors of peace alright, but I dont think it amounts to much, hope it will soon come. Oh say did I mention in my last letter that I received the photo O.K. no parcel yet. When you see Katy McLeod tell her that I broke that looking glass she gave me, so I suppose Ill have seven years bad luck, well their is some satisfaction in that, it means that I’ll live that long anyway and I guess the war will be over by then, this letter is going to be short because my candle is nearly done, Ill write more next time, I have not seen that family herald yet. remember me to all the folk and of course dont forget Bert,
I remain
Your loving husband
Frank
P.S. Dear Hughina
You can tell Jack that the wheather out here is very cold and that the ground is covered with snow but I prefer it to the mud. well be good
