Letter No. 3.
Eastbourne 8/6/17.

Dear Nerta,

Well I have any amount of mail now. The delayed mail as well as that to date, is I think pretty much in now. I have about three from you.

I have not very much news, am feeling about the same, working outside altogether we have gravel walks & drives and I have to keep these raked over, fumigate whatever clothes need it etc, I am eating better and feel better tho. The other night when the Allies blew up the big mine, I was asleep, but the noise & vibration was so great that in my sleep I jumped over four feet, onto the next bed to me and when I really wakened up, I was on the floor and had lighted the light. You see how my nerves are, and knowing this, the fellows all gave me the laugh as there was a very bad thunder storm in progress. Now tho that we have the news, they believe that there was some reason for my nervousness.

I am lying on my bed writing this, as I have most of the afternoon off, but have to go on police duty from 5 to 10.30 P.M. This comes about once in three weeks.

I am awfully sorry kid, that I forgot all about your birthday, but know you will forgive me. I will try to do better next year.

I have had a letter from Merle and she is apparently working somewhat. I am not sure about an Easter card from the Pat. society, but I know I had a card from them as I have the names signed to it, in my address book & will send them cards some day. Also had a letter from Audrey.

I guess there is some big scrap on across the way just now, but believe our people will break thro at Ypres and that will help straighten the line out a little.

I surely hope conscription goes thro as it will relieve the strain over here considerably. We are to have twelve more men attached here before long, but are very short of men now. Three have been discharged to Canada, one who transferred to the infantry (the boy who stole & was jailed) killed in France, Capt Bice is being invalidated home & two more of the boys are likely to be soon.

I am afraid kid that when I get to France I will be too busy to have time to talk to the girls.

Well I must go down town.

Your loving brother,
Worth.
